Informal Meeting of the EU Ministers for the Environment and Climate
Description
At the end of September 2020, the Federal Environment Ministry (BMU) invited 27 environment ministers from the European member states to an informal environmental council. Despite the coronavirus pandemic, it was designed to enable a personal gathering. The event with 200 participants was therefore relocated to the 5000-square-metre Station Berlin and two further locations. In addition, it was
extended by means of a hybrid concept, as not all ministers were able to attend. The aims of the event were communication between the European countries, a shared understanding of different starting situations and cooperation as a community.
To make this cooperation possible, facts and fiction designed coworking spaces that complied with coronavirus regulations, where the participants could discuss informally and through hybrid means. Sculptural collages with keywords about the current environmental policies of the individual countries were indicative of the diversity of the challenges faced. The whole spatial design was also orientated towards sustainability principles. For example, only waste items were used for the collages, the guidance system consisted of fully recycled materials and when selecting all the materials and
services, attention was paid to a minimal use of resources and to reusability.
