Alexion AHUS: Interactive VR Experience
Description
In order to be able to inform medical staff, experts and patients quicker, better and more clearly, Alexion together with onliveline made use of the possibilities afforded by virtual spaces. In a four-month process, they co-created VR spaces designed to help medics to make the right diagnosis quickly, as well as to know and understand treatment methods.
Based on a real patient story, five multimedia VR-scene spaces were created in which guests could actively immerse themselves in the goings-on. “Park”, “Hospital”, “Doctor’s surgery”, “Blood circulation” and “Library” became an immersive experience through media, animation, sound and live interaction.
The visitors met the patient, who told his emotional story. Two medics went on to provide the facts and showed what processes take place “subcutaneously” in the body. In “Blood circulation”, guests found out on a molecular level, surrounded by blood cells, pathogens and animations of the complement reaction, how immune responses work and what exactly happens if they do not work. Finally, the story Onlicended in the library with a rotating double helix, for discussing genetic causes and triggers.
