Augmented Reality: [AR]T Walks

New Museum & Today at Apple

Description

New York's New Museum teamed up with Today at Apple to develop a series of experimental augmented reality artworks. They were screened in selected cities and Apple stores from August 2019 onwards. Under the title "[AR]T Walks" artists designed six AR works, that are "exhibited" in public spaces such as London's Trafalgar Square.

The participating artists Nick Cave, Nathalie Djurberg and Hans Berg, Cao Fei, John Giorno, Carsten Höller and Pipilotti Rist already have a long history with the art and technology-oriented New Museum. In cooperation with the Museum and Apple they designed and choreographed the [AR]T Walks: guided city tours through six Augmented Reality artworks starting in selected Apple stores.

In addition to the [AR]T Walks in London, Paris, New York and Hong Kong, the collaboration includes the [AR]T Lab and [AR]T at the Apple Store. In the [AR]T Lab artist Sarah Rothberg shows and communicates how to create one's own AR experience. Nick Cave designed "Amass" for [AR]T in the Apple Store. An AR work, that can be discovered in any Apple Store with the [AR]T Viewer in the Apple Store app.
