Description

A monumental sculpture was to be created for the FIFA football World Cup 2022 in Qatar, by order of The Planners LLC. By the start of the event, the clients wanted an eyecatching art installation and a countdown clock as a beaconfor it. After the World Cup, it should be possible to dismantle them and set them up again at a different location. With these aims in mind, the inspiration of the appointed team from ACTLD was guided by the FIFA 2022 emblem, based on an infinity symbol, which they decided to bring to life.

The result is a gigantic, twelve-metre-high anamorphic sculpture. The inner and outer surfaces of the loop are fitted with LED screens that can be animated. The edges are rounded off with effective LED lines. Seen from the side, it forms an almost perfect circle, while from the front it appears as a figure eight or an infinity symbol. The sculpture is designed to turn slowly on a rotating platform, providing people with constantly changing perspectives. An hourglass was added at the centre, which is turned weekly or monthly. This project is still in the concept phase, as it remains to be seen whether the FIFA event will take place at all due to the corona restrictions.
