Globetrotter celebrated its 40th anniversary in 2019. The outdoor outfitter usually takes care of experiences in nature. But for the anniversary he traveled through Germany with a special indoor experience: the Globetrotter Virtual Reality Adventure.

The Globetrotter world usually revolves around sports and nature experiences, for example hiking or climbing tours in the mountains. This feeling should be translated into an extraordinary hyperreality experience. For this, the agency Infected developed a transportable, 36 square meter box. A virtual adventure was hidden in it, which was supplemented by real objects, sound, jolt plates, air conditioning and wind machines.

Two participants at a time, equipped with VR glasses and a mobile backpack, entered the discovery room – a kind of museum from 40 years of globetrotter history. There was a course to master and not to be stopped by storms, rockfalls and adventurous footbridges. A breathtaking balloon ride was the final highlight of the adventure.

A high level of VR quality was achieved through the use of the Unreal Engine, which is usually used in the development of console and computer games. Finger tracking and binaural 3D sound created a high level of immersion and a multi-sensory experience.
