Knitted Play Sculptures for Children

Toshiko Horiuchi MacAdam

Description

Toshiko Horiuchi MacAdam has been known for her colourful play sculptures since the 1970s. One of her best-known playgrounds is the net structure in the "Woods of Net" pavilion of the Hakone Open Air Museum in Japan. The artist spent a year knitting this work.

The structures are not only aesthetic, however, but also well thought-out . The specially constructed net is strong, elastic and reacts to the smallest movements. This allows it to hold tension, while at the same time the fibres stretch and transmit the movements for the fun factor.
