Opera Performance “Sun & Sea (Marina)”
Description
One highlight of the Venice Biennale 2019 was the opera performance "Sun & Sea (Marina)" in the Lithuanian Pavilion. An eight-hour staged beach scene with 13 singers and songs about banal everyday problems, boredom and the lurking about all environmental pollution.
Visitors looked down on a beach, watching sweaty people in swimwear on a mosaic of towels. In the background: laughter of children, the rhythmic rush of the waves, the rustle of plastic bags swirling through the air. In between, an airplane, speedboat or even the rumble of a volcano. The 13 singers introduce themselves in songs. Singing about their thoughts and problems, banalities and pollution.
A thoroughly analogue live performance by Lina Lapelyte, Vaiva Grainyte and Rugile Barzdziukaite, which has won the Golden Lion of the Biennale Award in the category Best National Participation.
