Science and Experience Center: Primeo Energie Kosmos
Description
Primeo Energie Kosmos is a science and experience centre all about the topics of climate and energy. It was established on the occasion of the 125-year company anniversary of Primeo Energie AG. The aim was to create an interesting extra-mural knowledge and learning venue in accordance with the Swiss Curriculum 21 and to convey natural sciences, technology and sustainability interactively.
Bellprat Partner designed a centre that combines an immersive experience with scientific education. Visitors can experience a variety of important climate and energy phenomena at 17 interactive exhibits. A 45-minute immersive experience show also allows guests to immerse themselves in the fascinating world of energy. On their scheduled and automated circuit, they can feel the power of the sun, climb on a wind turbine, head down into a hydroelectric plant and at the end even walk on clouds.
In addition, guided tours, energy shows and didactic workshops, developed in collaboration with Fachhochschule Nordwestschweiz (FHNW – University of Applied Sciences and Arts Northwestern Switzerland) provide more in-depth insights into complex contexts. The contemporary concept is designed to spark interest in STEM subjects in particular among secondary school pupils.
The former Electricity Museum (W8) was comprehensively renovated and now houses the immersive experience centre. An architecturally pioneering new building (W6) has been added, providing space for the Science Center and the workshop areas. The building is orientated towards the principle of a circular economy: The majority of the materials used are recycled, reused or made of renewable raw materials. It is a practical example of what is possible in construction under the motto of circular economy.
