“RosinenBAR THF”: Temporary Opening Concept for the Tempelhof Airport
Description
In the summer of 2021, after around one and a half years of the pandemic, there was a greater yearning for relaxation and shared experiences than ever before. During this time, die wellenmaschine developed a temporary opening concept for the Tempelhof airport in Berlin, together with their partner wrap stars and cooperation partner Tempelhof Projekt GmbH. Apart from the architectural and symbolic charisma of the site, use was also made of its scale in the interests of the best possible infection protection.
The public event under the name of “RosinenBAR THF” was conceived within a few weeks. A “pop-up culture space” was set up on the roofed manoeuvring area, feeling like a mix of an outdoor lounge, open-air cinema and a festival – urban romanticism on the runway, framed and defined by an original raisin bomber.
The programme was purposely heterogeneous and comprised literature, music, film and dance. RosinenBAR THF reflected a wide spectrum of Berlin culture, from avant-garde to mainstream, Berghain DJs and jazz bands to experimental readings. Cinema classics touched on both the city of Berlin in “Symphony of a City” and the venue itself in “Night over Tempelhof” as themes. Over 4000 visitors attended in 60 days – and enjoyed once again being able to experience the airport and a live event together
