Description

The “Sommer am U” (Summer at the U) has been held every year since 2014. It is an event series that invites visitors to concerts, readings and poetry slams, amongst other things, over the course of two months. Every Thursday and Sunday, those interested can come to the forecourt of the Dortmund U to listen or participate. Entry is free. In the meantime, the event initiated by the Dortmund U and Heimatdesign has developed into a fixed feature in the metropolitan cultural landscape – and was to surprise with a new look in its fifth year.

Together with the design firm Konter and the scenography studio please don’t touch, a contrasting concept was developed that went consciously against the previous forecourt design. The former pallet garden planted with greenery was transformed into a futuristic design that was reminiscent of science fiction films such as Blade Runner, Tron and Ghost in the Shell. Cubes covered with a dichroic film generated glittering light effects and told of a postmodern vision. A matt black container formed the closable stage. Modest stands served as seating for the visitors. An electronic sound composed especially opened and concluded each event.
