Stories / Spaces – Anniversary Exhibition
Description
The agency 1zu33 celebrated its 10-year anniversary with an event exhibition at the AIT-ArchitekturSalon 2019. Together with the design studio Off Office, they developed the exhibition “Stories / Spaces”, which demonstrated the creative processes behind their work. The centrepiece consisted of four double-sided screens, installed in a club-like cellar with a black reflective floor. These showed four of the agency’s most important projects for customers such as Aesop, Hansgrohe, Occhio and Gaggenau. The individually presented projects were accompanied by the voice of a female narrator alone. As an omniscient figure, she expressed questions, fragments of thoughts and ideas and guided the visitors poetically through the experience.
The double-sided screens, with a mantle of constantly changing light and sound, were intended to show the reciprocity between result and process. While sketches and references from the design process were displayed on the outer sides, details of the final projects appeared on the inner sides. Visitors were able to move freely between the screens and observe how ideas transformed into concrete spatial scenarios. The specific spatial structure was designed to emphasise the two-sided nature of the transformation. The positioning and alignment of the screens divided the room into two experience segments that can normally only be viewed one at a time. Here, however, they were physically linked through visualised stories.
