“The Sphere of Amazing”: Concept for the Countdown Clock

The 22nd round of the FIFA World Cup will be held in Qatar from 18 November to 21 December 2022 – the first to take place in an Arabic country. In accordance with this, the Countdown Clock by insglück was intended not only to initiate the major sporting event but also serve as an eventful space and as a stage for extraordinary moments.

The inauguration was planned for 22 November 2020 with a large-scale opening event, associating the clock symbolically with emotions and then starting the countdown. After the activation of the clock, regular PR events were planned, designed to raise awareness and the anticipation of the FIFA World Cup 2022.

As the Sphere of Amazing is a space and not an object, it serves as a place where people meet and celebrate together. Placed on the Corniche, a symbolic location in Qatar, the clock becomes a visible landmark that represents an iconic and unique photo motif. During the competition, the giant clock can be used as a place for public viewings. After the last match of the FIFA World Cup 2022, the Countdown will be converted into a real clock.
